Samuel Joseph COOK, 5th child born to James and Sarah Ann COOK (Nee GREENHALGH) was born September, 5th, 1876.
Samuel Joseph grew tothe same stately shape as his father.,James a big ma, a lovely natured man. Samuel's first recorded position with the Railway was that of office boy in June 1892, stationed on a Metropolitanarea posting at the rate of two shillings per day. For a lad of 16 he had quite a good job. He moved on to the Western Line and then to Orange in 1896 where he became an Apprentice Clark on an annual wage of fifity pounds. He too was stationed in Orange when his father James died., working as a Porter.
Samuel married Ethel Anne BENNETT. Ethel nursed at the hospital in Concord for over 20 years. Samuel gradually increased his position until his retirement March 1920.His Railway Employment sheet shows tha that he was retiring vecause of continued ill health, after 28years of service. From 1918 he lived in Waverly, Sydney.
