Recorded as being an Architect, Builder and Bricklayer.
Edwin is credited with being the architect and builder of the Lithgow Church of England and also associated with the Lithgow Presbyterian Church. A stone bridge in Rockdale, Sydney, is also attributed by Edwin.
The Ausrtalian Army, central Records Office advise that Edwin "attened the rank of Staff Sergeant Major No. 181. Military history: N.S.W. Torpado Corps- 2 1/2; Engineers in Victoria- 3 years; 3rd Infantry Regiment, in Victoria- 3 1/2 years. He then served om the Australian Permant Force with the Instructional Staff in N.S.W, South Australia and Western Australia from 1899; his retirement/discharge date not recorded on file.
"The Instructional Staff formed in 1906 for training menbers of the Australian Militia Forces."Edwin's last posting was in Parkes where he trained troops in the main street.
Edwin married Constance Rowe HAWKE (1872-1947) at Box Hill in Victoria in 1890. Constance, a methodist, was born in Pegley Gully,Borough of Eaglehawk, Bendigo, Victoria, the second child of George HAWKE and Caroline, both Constance parents were born in Cornwall U.K George 1853 and Caroline 1854 , (her parents arriving Port Philips 21/7/1849 aboard "HOPE").

E. J. COOK Former old resident of Oakey Park, Mr. Edwin James Cook, passed away, at the age of 79 years, at his son's residence, 49 Beaconsfield-street, Bexley, where he had resided for the past five years. Mr. Cook resided in Lithgow for 22 years prior to 1939, when he went to Newcastle for two years, arid then to Bexley. His many friends will regret to hear of his passing. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Constance Rowe Cook, three sons George (Northam, W.A.),"Ted" (Bexley)/ "Jim" (Riverina), and six daughters, Mesdames D. J.
