Narrative

Born in 1885 in Canley Vale. Ann COOK had a hat shop before she was married. Her marriage to Russell Edwin MAXWELL was stylish and beautiful, the men wore their morning suits and the groomsman was film star Tom (Pat) O.BRIAN, who was to become husband of neice Daphne COOK.
Ann had a lovely crystal clear singing voice like her mother and played the piano and sang at the Leader Tarful in Goulburn.
Russell worked in a shed by the house and when working the children knew to be VERY QUIET. On his return home Russel would cough several times and on entering the house the children would be lined up silently, waiting.
It was reported that following a Railway Union meeting he decided to go back to work only to be be struck on the head by one of the Railway picketers, and was killed. Aged: 39 years.
Widowed at an early age, life was not a bed of roses for Ann with 7 children. The older boys worked nights foling "Penny Post" newspapers whilst others helped mange the young ones.
