Narrative
Late Mrs M. A. Funnell Mrs Mary Ann Funnell, who died at her residence, Jubilee Terrace, Bardon, was a daughter of the late Mr David Petrie, a member of the well-known early Brisbane family of that name.
Mrs Funnell was born at Ipswich 79 years ago. She spent her childhood at Fortitude Valley and was educated at the old Normal Girls' School and at Landsborough, which was then known as Mellum. The family was amongst the pioneers of the Blackall Range.
Mr John Funnell, whom Miss Petrie married, brought his family to Jubilee Estate, Ithaca, 45 years years ago, and Mrs Funnell had lived there ever since. Mr Funnell died 36 years ago.
Mrs Funnell was keenly interested in the Labour movement and had the satisfaction of seeing one of her sons— the late Mr Robert Funnell— become member for Brisbane. She was keen on knowing the results of the polling last Saturday, and passed away on Sunday morning.
She is survived by two daughters — Mesdames A. Eugden and G. Andrews—and two sons— William and Joseph— also by 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. One son — Jack— died as a result of an illness in the last war.
