PERSONAL NOTES.
Mrs F. Boylan, of Cooper's Plains, has received the sad news that her only brother, Private Alfred Ansell, has been killed in action in France.
Private Ansell, who leaves a wife and one child, has been on active service for 12 months.
His mother resides at Bowen-street.

Narrative
Alfred Erold Ansell, the youngest child of his parents, Alfred and Mary Ellen Ansell (née Sidey) was born on 12 May 1892 in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia and was barely 18 months old when his father died.
In 1911 at the age of 18, Alfred joined the Field Artillery Brigade of the Queensland Militia stationed in Brisbane and trained for 13 months before he resigned.
He passed the entrance exams for the Queensland Railways and became a porter. He left the railways and took up a job as a carter for a bakery.
On 25 June 1913 he married Ethel Tilly Morse in Brisbane.
He voluntarily enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force (AIF) Brisbane in September 1916 and was assigned to the 42nd Battalion. After training in England he was posted to France, joining the Battalion in July 1917. In early October 1917 the 42nd Battalion was at the Belgian town of Poperinge and was preparing for a major operation to the east of Ypres. This commenced on the morning of the 5th of October 1917 and Private Alfred Ansell was in a trench at Thames Wood near Zonnebeke, Belgium when, upon leaping his trench, an enemy shell landed in the trench and struck him.
Private Alfred Ansell has no known grave and is commemorated at Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, Belgium.
