Narrative
COW DELIBERATELY MAIMED
CRUEL ACT AT BOWENFELS
man to be interviewed
An act of terrible cruelty was perpetrated on a cow at South Bowenfels on Monday, and there is a grim touch of irony attached to the fact that this was the day on which the "Be Kind to Animals Week" commenced in N.S.W.
The animal, which was a valuable beast owned by Mr. J. T. Sheppeard, a Lithgow butcher, was hamstrung, apparently with a knife, and it had to be destroyed. The owner only recently placed the animal in a paddock in that locality to rear a well bred calf. The latter was not harmed by whoever was responsible for the outrage.
Mr. Sheppeard, who has placed the matter in the hands of the police, stated to-day he was in possession of certain information which may lead to legal action. Constables Fallon and Turner, who investigated the matter yesterday, proceeded to a local centre to interview a man, but he was away from home at the time.
