THE LATE MR. W. H. PARKIN
Mr William Henry Parkin, whose death on 10th inst was briefly reported in last Issue, was born at Castlercagh, 62 years ago, and was a son of the late Mr and Mrs Christopher Parkin. Much of his early days was spent in Penrith, and nearly 40 years ago he came to St. Marys. He was a builder, and with his brother George (now of Granville) had much to do in the erection of a number of houses in St. Marys. For some time he had a bike shop in Victoria Street, in the terrace opposite the western end of the park. About 17 years ago he went into the premiess at the corner of Princess Mary and Victoria Streets, which he conducted as a bike shop and general store until a few months ago, when he sold out to Mr Guy.
Since then he had been residing in the adjacent cottagc in Victoria Street. Mr Parkin had many friends in the district, who will deeply regret his passing, for he was very companionable in many ways, particularly because of his fine sense of humour and sympathy.
He was married in St. Marys to Betsy Sheppard, of this town, who died 51 years ago. Deceased leaves four sons and three daughters, viz., William (Cardross, Victoria), Annie (Mrs Duff, Balldale, Riverina), Bessie (Mrs Payne, St.Marys), Evelyn (Mrs Sheppard, Sylvania), Max (Balldale), Harold (Dare, ton, Riverina), and Reg (St. Marys).
The late Mr Jonathan Parkin, saddler, Penrith, was a brother of deceased. Mr George Parkin (Granville) and Mrs Duff (Granville) are surviving brother and sister.
The funeral, which was well attended, took place on Friday afternoon, when the remains were interred in the Methodist portion of St. Marys general cemetery.
Rev. P. H. Curtis conducted the service. Deceased was a member of the I.O.O.F., a number of whose members were among the mourners.
