PRETTY WEDDING
PERRY-SHEPPEARD
A pretty wedding was recently celebrated at St. James' Church- of England, Croydon, the contracting parties being Beryl, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. K. Perry, 2 Wetherell-street, Croydon, and Jack, son of Mr. and Mrs. G. Sheppeard, Mort's Estate, Lithgow. The Rev, A. L. Wade, M.A., officiated..
The bride looked charming in a gown of ivory crepe satin, cut on classical lines, and wearing an embossed veil in place of a coronet of orange blossoms. She entered the church on the arm of her father who gave her away. Miss; Doris Perry (sister of the bride) and, Miss M. Roach were bridesmaids. Little Yvonne Rowe (niece of the bride) was trainbearer, while Mr. Alex. Sheppeard, brother of the bridegroom, was best man. Mr. E. Morgan was groomsman.
The reception was held in the Builders' Exchange Hall, Liverpool-road, Ashfield. About 60 guests attended, including the grandmother of the bride and the grandfather of the bridegroom, aged 62 and 87, respectively.
The Rev. Mr. Wade, who submitted the toast of "The Bride and Bridegroom," presided. The bridegroom suitably responded. Other toasts were proposed by Messrs. S. H. Plant, S. Alexander and A. Perry (of Lithgow), responses being made by Messrs. E. K. Perry, A. Sheppeard and H. Alexander. Madame Cransaz (late of Dubbo) acted as accompaniste.
The bride and bridegroom left by train for Lithgow, their future home.
The bride's going-away dress was of navy crepe satin, relieved with white.
The event is of interest to Lithgow people as the parents and family of the bride are erstwhile residents of the town. The bride and bridesmaid trained together as nurses at the Lithgow hospital, and afterwards were sisters at that institution. The bridegroom's family have been residents of Lithgow for many years.
